Is World of Warcraft PvP Good? | What Makes WoW PvP Good

World of Warcraft has always been a game about constant strife and faction warfare, a place where the Alliance and Horde would perpetually clash. From the very beginning, players would engage in PvP combat with the opposing faction, seeking glory and honor in bloody battles. Until this day, there’s still a large number of the WoW population that exclusively plays the game in order to do PvP, whether that be Arena or Battlegrounds.

In this piece we’ll take a look at the PvP aspect of World of Warcraft, point out all its strengths and weaknesses, and answer the age-old question “is WoW PvP good?”

What is WoW PvP?

WoW PvP, or Player vs. Player, refers to a special game mode within World of Warcraft where players can battle other players. Players who enjoy PvP-ing other players can toggle War Mode and fight the opposing faction anywhere in the world. This can result in small, unexpected skirmishes or large-scale organized battles between the two factions. You will encounter this on almost any of the top WoW PvP servers.

There’s also instanced PvP in the form of Arenas and Battlegrounds. Battlegrounds are large areas of land where two groups of players can fight each other to earn Honor and rewards. Arenas, however, are small gladiator pits where players can fight in 2v2 and 3v3 brackets. This PvP mode is much more challenging, and it is where the best PvP players in WoW compete.

What Makes WoW PvP so Good?

Now that we’ve established what WoW PvP is, it’s time to actually analyze it and see whether WoW PvP is good or not.

Yes, WoW PvP is really good, and there’s a couple of reasons why we believe that. First of all, the combat in World of Warcraft is incredibly smooth and enjoyable to play. Your abilities go off the moment you click them, there’s no sluggish movement or lag involved, and everything just works flawlessly. This cannot be said for PvP in some other MMORPG games.

World of Warcraft also uses a mix of GCD and non-GCD abilities, making PvP combat feel intuitive and engaging. GCD (Global Cooldown) is 1.5 seconds in WoW, meaning that when you press an ability it locks your other abilities from being used for 1.5 seconds. This prevents the combat from being too spammy.

Finally, the reason why WoW PvP is so great is because of all the diverse WoW PvP classes and specs within the game. You can always work on your PvP skills in WoW as there will always be a certain class or spec that will cause you trouble. Some classes are easier to play and require less time to grasp, but others have higher skill cap and take lots of practice to truly master.

Some Cons of WoW PvP

The main con of WoW PvP has nothing to do with PvP itself but more with Blizzard as a whole and the servers they run the game on.

You see, it’s almost impossible to organize any large-scale PvP event in the open world nowadays because the servers would lag, sometimes to the point of crashing. This has been an issue Blizzard never really addressed.
