When we talk about the Honkai Star Rail characters, we mean the main characters of the game who travel the galaxy aboard the Astral Express.
Each protagonist has their own unique story, personality, appearance and voice, which makes the game more realistic and entertaining. In addition, each of these characters has abilities, weapons and powers that allow them to fight, explore and solve the challenges.
Furthermore, the characters in Honkai Star Rail are classified according to two criteria: their category and their role. A character’s category or path does not determine its position in Honkai Star Rail tier lists, but it determines its origin and elemental affinity, as well as its mechanics and play style.

Character Paths
There are seven possible categories or paths. A character’s role or function indicates their main role in the team. It also impact how they inflict damage, or provide support or assistance to their allies. These are the specialized areas of each character according to their path:
- Path of Destruction: high attack power and damage dealing.
- Harmony: support and defence.
- Nihility: control and manipulation.
- Hunting: fast and agile.
- Erudition: knowledge and intelligence.
- Preservation: patience and defence.
- Abundance: creativity and item summoning.
How characters are obtained and how they are upgraded
Characters are mainly obtained through the gacha system, which involves spending star jade, the game’s premium currency, to randomly summon characters. This star jade can be obtained in many different ways, including promotional codes, quests, gifts or prizes at events or, most simply, using real money.
However, this gacha system is not the only way in which characters are obtained there are many others. For example:
- Create an account: the moment you finish creating your account in the game you’ll get the initial character, Trailblazer.
- Missions: by completing missions such as Eye of the Storm, you can obtain different characters such as March 7th, Herta, Lynx and Natasha.
- Levels: level up to receive more! An example of this is Qingque, which you get for free when you reach level 21.
- Special events: the game also has different special events that not only give you Star Jades but can also give you the characters themselves as prizes. For example, we have Luka and Serval that can be obtained in the event “Aetherium Wars”.

Upgrading Honkai SR Characters
You can upgrade characters through the ascension system, which consists of increasing the level, rank and skills of the characters. To achieve this, you need to use different resources, such as credits, travelling spirit guides, and refined aether, among others.
These resources can be obtained in various ways, such as fighting, exploring, completing quests, using some code, participating in events or buying them with star jade. Each of these improvements increases the stats, skills and attacks of the characters, thus raising their level and quality.
Meet some characters and their characteristics
For this point we have talked a lot about what characters represent, how they are obtained and how they are upgraded, but we have not yet talked about the characters themselves. Therefore, here are the characters of Honkai Star Rail, their stories and their most important characteristics.
Imbibitor Lunae
This character is a young black-haired, reserved boy who escapes from a dark past. This is why he joined the crew of the express. He’s one of the most powerful characters in the game and he belongs to the path of destruction, fulfilling the role as a damage dealer. This goes hand in hand with his element of power, fire.
He also has one of the most powerful weapons in Honkai star rail called the moon, which is a sword of fire, which can be accompanied by his eidolon, or companion, the dragon ignis.
Bronya
Bronya is none other than the heir to the supreme guardian of Belobog and the commander of the Silverman guard. With impressive wind powers, this character belongs to the path of harmony so it’s no surprise she’s a support. This character also has an amazing weapon which is her wind cannon called Storm.
Silver Wolf
Silver Wolf is not only an excellent hacker in the Honkai Star Rail universe, but also an amazing warrior. Belonging to the exclusive Nihility category, this character is a support. This consists of protecting, supporting and emphasising the damage done by other characters.
She also has an excellent quantum weapon, her power element, which is a pistol she calls the silver fang for its incredible accuracy in the field.
