Who is Guilty Gear Strive Testament?

Testament is one of the original Guilty Gear characters and they’ve basically appeared in every game! They’re a character who has great abilities at the middle range, options at long, and good combo potential. This has made them a solid pick for most Guilty Gear Strive tier lists.

Before we head into the lore behind Guilty Gear Strive, Testament’s best tactics and tips are worth delving into.

Testament Guilty Gear Strive Tips and Tricks

  • Space Control – One of the best features of Testament is how well their normal attacks can control space. Moves like the far slash can get into a run from any distance, before following up with a special that doesn’t have a lot of risk for you.
  • Comboing in from Neutral – A great bread and butter combo to master is Kick, Down Dust, Grave Reaper. Grave Reaper as a whole is great for moving in to put the pressure on before launching a combo.
  • Forward Punch – The forward punch in the Guilty Gear Testament kit is one of the best around. You can jump in with this.
  • Keep Enemies on the Backfoot – With all of those options to move into a combo and control the flow even from a distance, you should keep your opponent reacting. They can stay defensive if you make use of range well.
  • Stained State – This gets applied after a successful Unholy Driver, it allows you to make a lot more out of following attacks and combos. Master moving from this into high-damage moves to make the most of it. When Stained State is applied, don’t back off your opponent for the duration.
  • Making Space – With great-range attacks you’ll need to be able to make space around you. Make use of clock strings that push you backwards.

Tactics and Gameplay for Guilty Gear Strive Testament

For Testament, the mid-range is one of the best spots to be in. Their kit and Testament Guilty gear combos do work well at most ranges. Mid is where they can get the most control though. It’s where you keep your opponent on the back foot and control the flow of the fight.

Your tactics will depend a bit on your match-up. There are different strats for dealing with Baiken in Guilty Gear than anyone else. However, for the most part, keeping your opponent in the mid-range means you can choose when to apply pressure and when to keep the opponent away. Try and use your more sweeping moves and jump ins to keep enemies in an awkward position.

Over so many titles in the series, there’s a decent amount of Guilty Gear Strive Testament lore.

Testament is another orphan character in Guilty Gear, who ends up taken in by the order of Holy Knights. Eventually, Testament takes part in operations with the group before going being captured by government agents and transformed into a gear. After becoming self-aware they attempt to start riding the world of mankind. Murder sprees aren’t that uncommon, popping up in Faust Guilty Gear backstory too.

The Guilty Gear Testament story continues from here, with redemption and other twists along the way. They’re heavily featured in Guilty Gear X and XX but are a decent part of Guilty Gear Strive too.

Testament is an interesting character in both the lore of the game and in their moveset. They have some of the most creative options for engaging with opponents, if you put the time in to master them then they’re one of the best characters to play.
