GTA 4 Cheat Codes List ᐈ Cheats for PC, PS, and XBOX

Grand Theft Auto 4 debuted on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2008. It served as the first ‘next-generation’ Grand Theft Auto title, with the iteration being a world away from its PlayStation 2-based predecessors. It boasted a gritty, urban story set in a fictionalised rendition of New York City, and it was highly realistic. Today, we’re taking a look at the age-old game and breaking down the entire assortment of GTA 4 cheat codes that can be used to make a great game even better.

For years, Grand Theft Auto games have always come packaged with countless cheat codes. While there are plenty of cheat codes for GTA 4, there weren’t as many bizarre or crazy cheats, such as those found in GTA III, Vice City, and GTA San Andreas. It was also a little more complex to learn how to use cheat codes in GTA 4, as it wasn’t a typical ‘enter-a-code’ process as it had been for several years.

Read on through this guide to pick up all the GTA 4 codes and learn how to use them to make your game more exciting.

Are People Still Playing GTA 4?

Even though GTA 4 was released way back in 2008, plenty of people still play it. In some ways, it’s better than GTA 5, as it boasts more realistic physics, gunplay, and vehicle handling. It was a monumental title that became a bestseller almost overnight, and it welcomed so many new players into the seventh generation of home consoles with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Sadly, in 2021, Rockstar Games announced the closure of the online servers for GTA 4, but it hasn’t stopped people from playing the game.

For example, according to SteamCharts.com, GTA 4 secures a peak monthly player count of around 4,000 users, and that’s just one platform.

Admittedly, GTA 4 isn’t a patch on GTA 5 for one reason – the multiplayer. In GTA 5, there’s a persistent, ever-evolving multiplayer platform. By comparison, GTA 4’s multiplayer was a session-based exploration of Liberty City with friends, and aside from minigames, there wasn’t really anything else to see or do. It was fun, but it wasn’t intelligent or deep, and that’s why Rockstar Games likely felt no sadness when switching off the servers forever.

But yes, people are still playing the game – and more importantly, they’re all still using GTA 4 cheat codes.

How to Use Cheat Codes in GTA 4

It’s a much different process than it is using GTA 3 cheat codes, for example. In that game, all a player does is use the buttons on their controller to hammer in a code, and that’s it – they’ve unlocked something or turned on a particular cheat.

If you’re eager to use GTA 4 cheat codes for cars or to unlock some extra weapons, you’ll need to wait a few minutes once you’ve started the story. Unfortunately, there’s a short buffer before you can use all GTA 4 cheat codes, and it’s overcome when Roman Bellic, the protagonist’s cousin, hands over a cellphone. This will take approximately 10 – 15 minutes, and once the cellphone is secured, players are free to use it to enter GTA 4 cheat codes.

It’s as simple as bringing up the cellphone by pressing ‘UP’ on the d-pad and then going into the dial screen, using the number pad to type in cheats. Once these cheats have been entered, they’ll be saved in the cellphone’s phonebook, meaning to re-enter them, players simply need to bring the menu up again and speed dial the number.

It’s quite a unique feature and it’s a change from the existing formula that had been around for years. So, regardless of if you’re trying to find the GTA 4 cheat codes for a Lamborghini-styled car or if you’re trying to figure out how to unlock all the weapons in GTA 4, this is the method that you’ll need to follow.

All The Cheat Codes for GTA 4

Here’s a list of all the GTA 4 cheat codes that you’ll ever need. Remember, you enter them by typing the respective number into the cellphone’s dial screen. It’s worth bearing in mind that the use of certain cheats will disable some achievements or trophies.

If you’re wondering how to get unlimited money in GTA 4, you’ll be disappointed by this list of cheats. There are no codes that’ll reward you with unlimited money, but there are certain exploits and tricks that you can do in the game. For instance, you can hang around an ATM and arrange it so that anyone who uses the ATM meets an untimely end, and as they’ve just used the machine, they’ll drop more money for you to collect.

It is cumbersome, though – and ultimately, it’s not all that worthwhile. In GTA 4, there’s almost nothing that needs to be bought. There are clothing items, sure, but it ends there. There isn’t any vehicle customisation or purchasing to worry about, properties are handed to you for free, and with the GTA 4 cheat codes listed above, weapons and ammunition also become free. It might be a waste of time looking for GTA 4 cheat codes for money – or any glitches.

There are also no GTA 4 cheat codes for a tank, as it’s not something that exists in this game.

Are There Mods for GTA 4?

Like GTA 5, GTA 4 has plenty of mods that can be installed, but they’re exclusive to the PC platform. For years, accomplished modders have been working to add fantastic creations to GTA 4, from basic fixes and upgrades to intense, game-changing updates. For instance, several years ago, a mod surfaced that would flood the entire map, plunging Liberty City under a layer of deep water. It served no other purpose than to cause chaos, but it’s a great example of how far modders will go.

On PC, thanks to mods, players were able to build out an RP multiplayer platform. It wasn’t a patch on GTA 5’s RP platform, but it did serve to expand what existed immeasurably – for PC-based gamers only, of course. It made the vanilla multiplayer platform much more enjoyable and immersive, even if it was more niche and underappreciated than GTA 5’s RP platform.

At present, fans are sitting and awaiting the release of GTA 6, eager to learn what the multiplayer platform will look like for that game. Maybe it’ll have cheats, too – who knows? If you need more cheats, tips, and walkthroughs, be sure to check out our gaming guides.
