Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, Team Liquid’s iconic mid laner is rumored to part ways with the organization after only a year. According to League of Legends reporter Brieuc Seeger. Apparently, Bjergsen isn’t limiting himself to the LCS but is also entertaining offers from the LEC.
Bjergsen’s impact in the LCS
Bjergsen, is a veteran of the game, his career spanning a decade. He began his career with the Netherlands-based and now defunct Western Wolves. After nearly eight years with TSM between 2013 and 2021, he was signed by Team Liquid to much fanfare as they rehauled their roster ahead of the spring LCS.
Despite his team’s under-par performance, Bjergsen’s individual stats read pretty well. He ties with EG’s support Vulcan for the highest KDA in the league, around 8.7. Bjergsen also managed 3.5 kills per game in the summer split, the seventh-highest in the league accounting for 79 percent of his team’s total kills.
‘Superteam’ Team Liquid fails to live up to expectations
However things haven’t worked out for TL, and it looks like they’re in for another revamp. With a roster that included the illustrious Steven “Hans sama” Lin and Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau in addition to luring Bjergsen back to pro play, TL were hailed as the next LCS superteam.
After the regular season of the spring split they looked unbeatable, and were certain favorites to win the tournament. But Evil Geniuses knocked them unceremoniously out of the playoffs before going on to claim the title, and they’ve looked a little off-color ever since.
Liquid haven’t been able to qualify for a single international event this year. They didn’t make it to this year’s Mid Seasonal Invitation in Korea earlier in May, nor did they manage a slot in the Worlds. Their title campaign and their Worlds spot was thwarted once again by Evil Geniuses, the thorn in their flesh this year, to whom they lost 2-3 in the third round of the LCS playoffs.
Team Liquid revamping again?
Bjergsen’s departure from the squad is the latest development in TL’s ongoing roster revamp. About a month ago, Team Liquid announced that bot laner Steven ‘Hans sama’ Liv would also be going his own way.
Hans Sama joined the squad in 2021, leaving behind Rogue Esports and the LEC. A report by Upcomer has suggested that he might be entertaining an offer from French org Karmine Corp, though this hasn’t been confirmed yet. Team Liquid’s chink in their armour has been the bot lane. Now that Bjergsen and Hans Sama are on the way out, it remains to be seen whether Jo ‘CoreJJ’ Yong-In will remain with the roster for 2025.
Bjergsen may join Rekkles on an LEC spot hunt
Both Bjergsen and Rekkles find themselves without a team early in the post-season. Both players would likely look to be signed for some LEC organization, and there is plenty of candidates that would take them. It’s more then likely both Astralis, SK Gaming, Team BDS and Heretics will opt-in for some roster changes and plenty rosters can be build around these two.
We are still heavily into roumor territory, and we have to wait at least one full month before the LEC free agency kicks off.
