Wavedash Taking a Break in 2025 to Come Back in 2025

The Wavedash isn’t just a key move to master in Melee. It also lends its name to an impressive tournament series which has become one of the most well-liked for Melee and Ultimate. However, Washdash 2025 isn’t going ahead. The company has just announced their plans for the year and it’s bad news. However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel as they’ve also promised the events will be coming back in future years.

Wavedash is a tournament series which usually runs in California. It’s an event which has become a fun part of the summer, with major tournaments for both sides of Smash Bros epsorts. However, they’ve clarified their upcoming plans and that doesn’t include hosting an event in 2025. Although, Wavedash will be back as a tournament after a year off. This is what they’ve announced for the year ahead.

Wavedash Taking a Break in 2025

In a public statement on Twitter, Wavedash have clarified their future plans. They start by thanking fans for following and supporting the tournaments for all these years. However, they’ve had to make a “very hard decision” about Washdash 2025.

The new tournament won’t be going ahead this year. Talking about the year off, they’ve said “An event of this calibre requires a lot of time, resources, and financial risk. To be fully transparent with you all, the Top Shelf Esports team members each have obligations and duties in Real Life leading up to this year’s Wavedash season. Coincidentally, we are all either finishing up or starting our degrees in 2025, on top of working full-time. Due to this, we feel we would not be able to deliver an event to our standards.”

Clearly, 2025 won’t be a year where Wavedash is running. It’s disappointing to lose a major tournament series but it isn’t going forever. They’ve also specified the series will be making a return in 2025! Hopefully, next year’s event is bigger than ever to make up for this year off. Who knows where the rankings for the best Smash players will be by then.
