Do I lose my progress if I change professions?
Sadly, you will lose all current progress if you change your profession. This means that all recipes, skill points and knowledge points will be gone. You should be aware of this before unlearning your professions. In some cases, it’s better to pick up the same profession on a different alt character and keep all the progress you’ve made on your main.
However, if you do change back to your old profession sometime later down the road, you’ll be happy to know that all your specializations will stay, as well as the knowledge points you accumulated. You will still have to level the profession from level 1, but that’s not that big of a deal.
The Benefits of Changing Professions in WoW
There are a few benefits to changing your professions in World of Warcraft. The obvious one is simply picking a profession that makes more gold at the time. Even though you lose your progress on the old profession, you make way more gold with the new one. You’ll often see some of the best WoW players swapping professions from patch to patch. They identify lucrative markets and quickly adapt.
Another great benefit of changing professions is Artisan’s Mettle. This is a unique currency that’s widely used in Dragonflight professions. You get it naturally as you gain knowledge points. This means that you can drop your old profession, pick up a new one and level as high as possible, accumulating tons of Artisan’s Mettle along the way. The strategy might be a bit cheesy, but it’s effective.
Should You Change Your WoW Profession?
Now that we’ve learned about WoW how to forget a profession, the big question remains – should you do it?
This is something you have to ask yourself and weigh your options carefully. If you’re not into gold making and you’re more of a collector, then keeping your old profession is probably a smarter move. Losing all the rare recipes you received from the best WoW raids will be a huge setback.
However, if your sole reason for having a profession is to squeeze every last penny out of it, then go ahead and change as you please. Just make sure to do your calculations correctly before committing to a new profession.
Now go out there and collect those knowledge points!
