Fortnite Chapter 5 has had quite a few changes to the game, but the most controversial for quite a while was the Fortnite movement changes. Initially, the game completely upended the movement mechanics for Chapter 5, which was kind of frustrating. Epic saw the backlash and decided to rework things. What’s Different with the Latest Fortnite Movement Changes?
The most recent update has made even more alterations. There are a few factors which have changed. For starters, the movement speed has been revamped. When crouching you’ll move at a faster speed. The nerfed crouching speed is one of the original movement changes that stuck around, so it’s great to get this back to normal. Running speed has also been increased.
Along with changing the speed around, the animations have been altered. These animations are the root of all these movement changes, really. Epic changes the animations, then everything else is changed to suit them. Since the new animations don’t entirely match the old speeds, it’s been a bit weirder since they fixed them. Epic has now changed the movement animations to make them match the restored speeds properly.
The other final Fortnite movement changes are for PC players. Their custom diagonal movement has been reset. The diagonal movement has been something mouse and keyboard players have been struggling with. Hopefully, this latest fix lets the game get back to normal.

Fortnite Movement Changes Are Getting Fixed in Chapter 5
At the launch of Fortnite Chapter 5, we got quite a few new features. Some of the most impactful weren’t new features or items, though. They were new movement animations.
Epic decided to freshen up how character models look when they’re moving. The animations were roughly well received. The downside, however, was that they’d adjusted the timing of everything.
Movement speed was reduced, crouched walks were down to a crawl, and the timing of moving while building and editing was thrown off completely. This led to a lot of unhappy players, who had grinded to get to a higher skill level. Their muscle memory was now working against them. Even some of the biggest Fortnite players were struggling with the change. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long for a response.
Pretty quickly after players noticed, Epic clarified what had changed. They asked fans to give the new timings a chance since they’d found they also took a few days to get used to it in testing. This kind of quick response is a big change for Epic and it shows them taking community management a lot more seriously now. While some players weren’t happy with the Fortnite movement changes staying, they were pretty widely happy with the communication.
Then a day later, Epic announced they were turning back. Movement speeds are going back to normal!
When Will Fortnite Movement Get Turned Back?
The Fortnite Movement changes are being reversed, but it’s important to note the animations aren’t. The speed and timing are going back to how it was before but with the new animations there. This is a best-of-both-worlds solution. We’re getting the nicer animations and the timing that everyone is used to. It might take a little while to hit the game, though.
Epic has said they’re working on reverting the movement changes. However, it won’t be an instant change. The devs are taking their one of only two short breaks a year pretty soon. We can expect the Fortnite movement changes to be reverted in one of the next biggest updates after the holiday season.
