How to get hidden ability Pokémon

Hidden ability Pokémon are unfortunately fairly random. There aren’t all that many guaranteed ways to get them. With that said, Tera Raids, specifically the six-star raids with strong Pokémon, are a good way to get them. It is possible to get some Pokemon with hidden abilities in lower-level Tera Raid battles, though.  For example, Ditto has a 100% chance of having its hidden ability in raids. On the other hand, seven-star Tera Raid battles, such as Mightiest Mark Cinderace, had a 100% chance of yielding a hidden ability Pokemon, so those are a good way to go. Keep in mind that they are extremely difficult to take down, so battling one doesn’t guarantee a catch at the end.

Breeding hidden abilities

Breeding has been around for a very long time in Pokémon, and it is a big part of Scarlet and Violet. If and when you get a Pokémon with a hidden ability, breeding them represents the best chance to get more. When a hidden ability Pokemon is bred with  the same species or with a Ditto you caught, the resulting Pokémon has a chance to have their hidden ability. However, breeding cannot pass on a hidden ability to offspring of a different species. For example, if a male Cinderace with its hidden ability breeds with a female Greninja with a regular ability, it will never yield a Froakie with its hidden ability.

Ability patch

Ability Patch is an item that was first added in Pokemon Sword & Shield. It came with the Crown Tundra DLC. This extremely rare item allows Pokemon with a regular ability to learn their hidden ability. It also does the inverse, but most players won’t want to use the rare item to get a regular ability instead of the hidden one in most scenarios. As mentioned, Ability Patches are extremely rare. Trainers have just a 4.55% chance of getting one as a reward from winning a six-star Tera Raid battle.
